Updates, your update window and renewing
The licence is yours forever. What has a date on it is updates — a year from when you bought. Here is what happens after that year.
Steps

Check your date
Settings shows "Licensed · updates until <date>". That is the last release date your key covers.

Keep using what you have
After the window ends, the version you have keeps working for good. Nothing switches off.

If you install something newer
LabelVault tells you, and offers a link to the newest version your licence does cover, so you are never stuck with nothing.

Renew if you want the new features
Renew updates buys another year. It is optional — plenty of people buy once and run the same version for years.
